Lema Ranch, where the Foundation headquarters is located, was purchased by Leah McConnell in 1993 as investment property. When it was time to create a permanent home for the Foundation, Lema Ranch, with its sprawling natural setting, seemed a good fit. The grand opening was held Labor Day weekend, 1997. Originally a working mule ranch belonging to Chuck and Peggy Lema in the 1950s, the property’s 200 acres included five man-made ponds, which were restored and improved when the headquarters was developed. The HQ building is roughly 25,000 square feet, with space for Foundation staff to do their work, and space that is shared with the public for meetings, trainings, and board retreats. The public also has the opportunity to enjoy walking and running the trails daily.
